Dr. Bearman has worked at all levels of government. He was a medical officer
for the Regional Office of the U.S. Public Health Service. He was
Director of Health Services at San Diego State University.
He was Director of Sutter County Health Department. He has taught courses
on the pharmacology of psychotropic drugs at UCSF, UCSB and SDSU. He has written
Demons, Discrimination, and Dollars, a Brief History of the Origins of American Drug Policy.

Dr. David Bearman has made hundreds of presentations to professional
and lay audiences on medical marijuana, drug abuse treatment and
prevention and the origins of American drug policy. He is a dynamic, entertaining,
informative speaker. His presentations are illustrated by well-organized,
Power Point slide shows. He is available to talk to medical groups, colleges,
civic and parent organizations. He has made presentations on these topics
to the American Public Health Association, the American College Health Association,
Patients Out of Time, NORML, the American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine,
the Pediatric Department of the Balboa Naval Hospital, Grand Rounds at San Diego
Hospital, and the Department of Community Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Bearman has an impressive resume. From 1972 to the present,
he has delivered expert witness court testimony on the pharmacology of
recreational drugs in over 300 criminal and civil cases. In 1981, he received
grants from San Diego County and Santa Barbara County to conduct a series
of workshops on Training for Trainers in Drug Abuse Prevention and Intervention.
In 1983, he organized and conducted a national conference on Parenting and Drug
Abuse Prevention. He was a member of the California State Universities' Alcohol
Task Force, and also a member of the San Diego County and Santa Barbara
County Drug Abuse Technical Advisory Committees.
He was member of Governor
Reagan's Interagency Task Force on Drug Abuse. In 1994, while medical director of
the Santa Barbara Regional Health Authority, he received a grant from the
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop a plan
for treatment of Dual Diagnosis.
